After everything that happened regarding the book Call Me Max in March 2021, you would think district leadership would consider community concerns, but their actions suggest they care more about pushing the idea that gender is a choice onto our children. In August 2021, five months after the incident, Tom Stream, the elementary school librarian, ordered the book Call Me Max along with two sequels for all GHAPS elementary school libraries. Mary Jane Evink, the Director of Instructional Services, approved the order.
Again, this is interesting. Mary Jane Evink says these books can’t go in the libraries, but she defended them otherwise. In addition, Mary Jane approves orders, but doesn’t look at all the titles. So, there is zero oversight for Tom Stream and huge disconnects between Mary Jane’s words and actions. One GHAPS employee can unilaterally shape the agenda. In his reply, Tom Stream noted that he has been making a concerted effort to order non-traditional family books.
Mary Jane Evink quickly requests a phone conversation. Do you think she is doing this because she doesn’t want a written record?
So, we have learned that Tom Stream purchases books for the elementary school libraries. Likewise, Sarah McElrath purchases books for the middle school libraries. She too believes in pushing one side of many controversial views onto our children. Her email isn’t as obvious, but she also admits to pushing the same agenda.
Near the end of her email she states, “The good news is we have MANY books that perpetuate fabulous, inclusive messages. I suppose it speaks somewhat to my white privilege that I never even noticed some of these negative stereotypes.” (referring to Dr. Seuss)…. Now Dr. Seuss is out and LGBTQ is in!
These emails are frightening as they confirm the hidden agenda of the GHAPS librarians, and that these librarians are working with the Director of Instructional Services, Mary Jane Evink. It seems like the more parents express concern, the harder they go with their plans. Do you get the feeling from them that they knew better than the parents what is good for the kids? It’s that kind of arrogance that causes the problems we have.
