A Long Talk is an organization whose goal is to have “an anti-racist activist at every dinner table”. They offer free three-day on-line workshops, book clubs and movies. They are sponsored by tons of universities including the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. The Anti-Racism Task Force at the Momentum Center has partnered with A Long Talk along with GHAPS employees Hailey Barton, Mary Jane Evink and Brian Wheeler.
In the email exchange below the representative from A Long Talk says, “We definitely pause to pay respect for Brother Floyd and hope that this victorious decision can serve as a catalyst for a wave of justice and police abolition.” This one statement tells you everything you need to know about A Long Talk. They celebrate a criminal whose major accomplishment in life was to die at the hands of a police officer.
A Long Talk About The Uncomfortable Truth is an anti-racism activation experience. Participants who self-identify to engage in this experience agree to the completion of pre work before entering into the group discussion. This pre work is a multimedia collection of content reflecting the truth about the history of racism in the United States and the impact it continues to have on our society today. Completion of the pre work serves to provide a common foundational understanding of the issue. The “long talk” begins with three (3) days on a virtual conference call. Each call lasts 90 minutes. The calls are orchestrated as reflective conversations, where participants are asked to listen, view, and respond in real time. The conversations take place in large and small group settings using the breakout rooms feature. ~From the A Long Talk website
The long-term goal of the organization “A Long Talk” is to have an “anti-racist at every dinner table.” This is what the Momentum Center is doing with community donations. If you were fooled and donated to them because their programs look good on paper, I hope you are not fooled a second time.
