In October 2021, once the DEIB Committee was fully established, they began a book study with interested GHAPS staff members following Glenn Singleton’s book Courageous Conversations. Transforming a school district to adopt a culture of identity Marxism is a “process”. It takes time to lay the ground work and move through each step in the transformation process.
The image above is from a slide presentation by Glenn Singleton. The series of articles “Tale of Two Districts” (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) detailed this transformation process. According to the above image, GHAPS is approximately half way through this process.
Below you can read the first email in which GHAPS Curriculum Director Mary Jane Evink invites staff members to participate in the Courageous Conversations book study. I find it awkward that Mary Jane feels it important to note that the facilitator is a “Person of Color.”
The following email invites ELA staff members (English teachers) to participate in the book study. It is interesting to note that the book study is being facilitated by Kent County ISD and our staff are being paid to support this Marxist mindset.
This final email again notes that participants will be paid and mentions some topics from the book study including racial consciousness.
This book seems designed to beat our teachers over the head with race, racial consciousness, and racial equity. But, then again, the first email alludes to the “challenge of addressing the systemic racism in our district”. I suppose that means there’s a foaming racist hiding around every corner. Perhaps they’re actually out in the open, but I just haven’t gained the ‘consciousness’ to recognize it. As a community, we need to question how our school board is guiding our district. Is this really how you want your tax dollars spent?
