The following was written by a former Grand Haven teacher in response to the way schools seem to be encouraging children to explore LGBTQIA+ rather than accept and treat people who are LGBTQIA+ with respect. The teacher is also concerned with the availability of sexually explicit books in school libraries.
What a lot of people don’t realize is exactly how vulnerable and confused today’s teens are. When I was teaching at the high school and even at the college level many students over the year’s had asked me if they “could possibly be gay.” It heard it all, but if they decided to experiment the after guilt was enormous, and deeply affected their lives and future decisions. Our kids are losing and maybe have already lost their innocence and I believe our duty is to give them a safe childhood. Books like what we are looking at should only be in a professional counselor’s office and only if parents give consent. There are so many screwed up kids out there and to some extent and maybe to a large extent the adults are causing it.
