GHAPS donated laptops to the Momentum Center; an organization that works to teach citizens the correct way to think about racism with the Anti-Racism Task Force. In the email below Brian Wheeler informs Jenna Vipond at the Momentum Center that he has a few more laptops to donate. This email raises many questions.
How often does GHAPS upgrade laptops? How many laptops are typically upgraded? Which laptops are upgraded? What is the value of laptops no longer needed? How many laptops were donated to the Momentum Center? Were the laptops offered to any other non-profits or organizations? How does GHAPS determine which organization will receive their donations?
In addition to the laptops, a 60” television was donated to the Momentum Center.
Was that 60” screen donated by Brian Wheeler or by GHAPS? What was its value?
It seems the district is spending a lot of money on computers. They then turn around and upgrade those computers. How often is this happening? New computers so every student has a device. Are our tax dollars being funneled to the Momentum Center Anti-Racism Task Force without our knowledge or approval?
According to Board Policy 7310, “The Superintendent is authorized to dispose of obsolete instructional and other property by selling to the highest bidder, by donation to appropriate parties, or by proper waste removal.”
Were these laptops obsolete? I would like to see records detailing recent technology donations. Wouldn’t you? There is a millage vote scheduled for Tuesday, May 3, 2022. I have always voted yes on past millage questions, but I’m not sure the current administration can be trusted with money.
