The Michigan Department of Education believes classrooms should be inclusive to LGBTQ students. One way they suggest making classrooms inclusive is through classroom library books. This is significant, because classroom library books are not required reading, nor are they included in the school library. Therefore, they can be easily hidden from parents. The MDE included this video clip as a great example of an inclusive classroom. This is highly concerning.

The Michigan Department of Education assembled a team of experts called the MDE LGBTQ Student Project, who put together a series of trainings, recordings and resources to support LGBTQIA+ students. The videos provide numerous recommendations from The State of Michigan for schools and school personnel in relation to dealing with LGBTQ students.
The complete series of videos is called Pride in Diversity.
