In a recent article we described how Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process, MICIP, is a dangerous idea when it comes to independence and to parental rights as MICIP facilitates a further shift in educational control away from the local level and towards the State and Federal levels. In other words, the State of Michigan is working to increase their control over schools and citizens through funding and data collection.
The MICIP System was rolled out in schools across Michigan during the 2021-22 school year.
Former GHAPS board member Barbra Pietrangelo was concerned with the effects of implementing the MICIP system. In fact, she asked many difficult questions regarding the rollout of MICIP. Here is an email from Barb Pietrangelo to former GHAPS Superintendent Andy Ingall, current GHAPS Superintendent Scott Grimes, School Board President Carl Treutler, and School Board Vice-President Christine Baker.
After emailing several GHAPS administrators, former GHAPS School Board member Barb Pietrangelo gave an expanded description of her concerns.
She was so concerned with the lack of public transparency regarding the implementation of the MICIP system that she sent the following email.
The exchange Barb Pietrangelo had with fellow GHAPS administrators revealed a huge surprise. Although most administrators knew little to nothing about MICIP, one was involved in its development. Grand Haven Area Public School Board member Marc Eickholt worked with the Michigan Department of Education and led the development team in creating the MICIP online platform.
Here are some more questions that should be answered by the MDE and GHAPS administrators.
How does implementation of this system lead to:
Academic success?
Student achievement?
Future success of students?
Students becoming independent adults?
