For speaking out against the leftward lurch in American culture and institutions, many patriotic Americans have been branded deplorables, homophobic, racist, conspiracy theorist, science-denier, extremist, racist, and Christian Nationalist. Our ideas have been mischaracterized in an effort to make us look extreme.
Most Americans believe we should be required to show identification in order to vote. The left mischaracterizes this belief by saying we are trying to suppress the minority vote and calls us racist.
Most Americans believe minors should not undergo gender transition surgery. The left mischaracterizes this idea by saying we are transphobic.
Most Americans believe people have a right to bear arms and protect themselves in accordance with the 2nd Amendment. The left mischaracterizes this belief by saying we are violent.
Most Americans believe schools should not provide minors with books containing sexually explicit content. The left mischaracterizes this idea by saying we are against the 1st Amendment and calls us book banners.
These tactics have been used on groups of concerned citizens all throughout the country. In Grand Haven, there is a group of citizens speaking out against age-inappropriate and sexually explicit content offered in school library books. These parents were called “Book Banners” when they were asking for books to be rated. The left not only used the above tactics on these parents, but at least one school administrator was involved with recruiting community activists and students to speak at a board meeting against parents.
The Powerful Podcasts: Episode 4, A Modern Day Book Burning (April 7, 2022) is an interview with the GHAPS Curriculum Director Mary Jane Evink. During the interview, Mary Jane confirms she was involved in organizing activists and students to speak at the board meeting in opposition to parents. At the 17:54 minute mark she states: “So the book banners had been at multiple board of education meetings and finally we said ‘Let’s call our friends in’ and ask if they would be willing to come to the next board of education meeting.”
Here is a short video showing the event.
It is completely unacceptable that a school district’s Curriculum Director was involved with organizing a group of activists and students to speak against parents.
It is equally unacceptable when parents are belittled by a member of the school board. GHAPS board member Mark Eikholt discredited parents as a group with this social media post where he said, “If you’re someone who feels the need to call unpaid volunteers who are your neighbors names while threatening them because you disagree, I suggest you skip the meetings and go try to actually have a conversation with the experts that they are taking advice from. I’m sure your evening YouTube and TikTok “research” will hold up well to what they have likely dedicated most of their lives to.” He was speaking about parents who were opposed to mask mandates.
Here is another example of these tactics being used in British Columbia. A group of concerned citizens had many questions regarding an upcoming drag queen story hour which was scheduled to take place at the local library. After a large number of citizens emailed questions, the library canceled the event stating that they were threatened. The library has yet to show proof of threats.
These same tactics are being used by leftist activists against Ottawa Impact Commissioners and anyone associated with them. Leftist activists regularly organize to speak at Board of Commissioner meetings. I have heard the new commissioners called fascists, Christian Nationalists, and science deniers. They have been accused of not understanding science, trying to destroy opportunities for minorities, orchestrating cover-ups, not caring about mental health, authoritarian rule, limiting individual freedoms, discrimination against people with different beliefs and lifestyles, flagrant spending, corruption, and forcing their beliefs onto others. Suggestions on how to provide services that would benefit all of the nearly 300,000 residents of Ottawa County are far and few between, but pleas to maintain programs that benefit a minority of grant recipients are many.
Name calling and unhinged accusations are tactics that attempt to appeal to emotion as they bully targets into compliance. Fortunately, as time progresses the facts become clearer and logic prevails. Everyday Americans are seeing it.
