On July 29, 2024, the Ottawa County Republican Party held a press conference endorsing Donald J. Trump for president. Brendan Muir, head of the Ottawa County Republican Party and candidate for US Congress challenging Bill Huizenga, hosted the conference. Muir took the opportunity to share more information about the local party. “The Ottawa County Republican Party and the people who represent the party are moms, fathers, brothers, and sisters. We are the salt of the earth and the people of America. [] The Republican party of Ottawa County is united. It is growing. It is stronger than ever.”
Muir continued, “The party today is made up of over 350 precinct delegates from all over Ottawa County. They are a representation of their area and their districts. Before 2023, the Ottawa County Republican Party had just over 100 delegates. So, there are now over three times that number of people who are involved and active. They are from your communities [] and they want to restore the principles of the Republican Party back to the Republican Party platform.”
Muir briefly mentioned that several Ottawa County Republican candidates not endorsed by the Republican Party and are seeking support from Democrats. These non-Republican Republicans are even encouraging Democrats to vote for them in the Republican Party primary. This video shows a good example of these fake Republicans.
Muir finished by directing people to the Ottawa County Republican Party website and voter guide. “If you are a Republican, vote for the Ottawa County Republican Party endorsed candidates.”
Despite a torrential downpour, approximately 400 supporters attended the event on Monday, July 29. In addition to Muir, incumbent Ottawa County Commissioner candidates Gretchen Cosby and Sylvia Rhodea, and Ottawa County Prosecutor candidate Greg Todd took turns speaking. Voters also got to hear directly from two precinct delegates, PJ Muir and Christi Meppelink.
If you have a mailbox, I’m sure you have noticed that big money is flowing into Ottawa County. Entities from outside of the district seem to be overly interested in the outcome of our elections. Many of the flyers filling our recycle bins contain a mix of truth and misinformation designed to confuse voters.
From my perspective, there are two types of Republicans running for positions in Ottawa County. One type that appears to act in the best interests of the local citizenry and another type that appears to act in the best interests of big government. If you have questions, be sure to speak with your neighborhood precinct delegates, as it is their elected duty to be a liaison between their neighborhood and the Ottawa County Republican Party. Voting day is August 6th.
