Virginia seems to be ground zero for severe consequences stemming from radical gender and racial policies. The CRT infused teachings have led to racial incidents in schools, and the gender policies have led to sexual assaults in public school bathrooms. The results of these insidious teachings are bearing fruit. Grand Haven citizens need to pay attention and end similar practices, otherwise we are likely to see similar results.
We now have another example, of how a school gender policy played a role in increasing the trauma suffered by a student in Virginia. Luke Rosiak, reporting in The Daily Wire, detailed the story of Sage, a 14-year-old transgender girl, who ended up being sex trafficked on two separate occasions.
You can click the link to read the whole article, but to summarize, Sage was adopted by her grandmother after the death of her father. She began identifying as a male and ran away from home in 2021. She was rescued from being sex trafficked in Baltimore, Maryland, but was not sent home. Instead, Judge Robert Kershaw had the young girl sent to a Baltimore therapeutic institution that would cater to her desire to live as a trans male. This put her in confines with troubled biological males even though she was a minor who had just suffered the trauma of sex trafficking. Why did he reach this conclusion? The public defendant for Sage, appointed as a result of her being a runaway, pleaded with the judge to not send her to her adoptive parent’s (biological grandparents) home due to the grandmother “misgendering” her.
Further court actions and maneuvers, detailed in the article, transferred guardianship of Sage to the Baltimore City Department of Social Services. Legally there was no reason the court could prevent Sage from being returned to her home state of Virginia. Although the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services couldn’t find justification to prevent her return to Virginia, the judge kept her in Maryland. While these court proceedings were taking place, Sage once again ran away. This time, she was found in Texas after having been a victim of sex trafficking for a second time. The officials in Texas returned Sage to her parents in Virginia where she remains.
So why does another story from Virginia once again concern us locally? Because the Appomattox County High School officials had hidden her preferred pronouns from her parents. The reason Sage’s grandmother “misgendered” her was because she had only found out that Sage identified as a boy hours before she ran away. This was an intentional action by the school, and one that is happening in Grand Haven and across the State of Michigan.
The image below shows a survey given to some students at Grand Haven High School.
Furthermore, training from the Michigan Department of Education instructs teachers to keep student gender identity information hidden from their parents. Under the guise of “privacy” for students, the linked training video shows how to conceal preferred pronouns and name changes in online systems as well as in parent teacher conferences.
So, let’s put this all together now. The state, through the school, introduces your young child to very confusing gender ideology. Here’s a teacher featured by the Michigan Department of Education explaining how he introduces students to gender ideology with books such as The Gay BC’s, and I am Jazz (transgender theme). The school fosters gender confusion under the guise of “inclusivity”. Then, when your child develops gender dysphoria, the state (school again) hides this confusion from you. They may alert you if your child is suicidal, but they will go to great lengths to not tell you why if it involves gender dysphoria. This makes it harder for a parent to get the necessary help for their child. Then, if a situation arises that involves the court, and you call your child by the “incorrect” name or gender, it may be used against you, and you may be labeled abusive.
To return to Sage’s story, this is what the judge said: “This court finds that Draco (Sage’s trans-identity name) has more likely than not endured emotional abuse and neglect by his parents”. He cited as evidence of this abuse “persistent challenge…using masculine pronouns when referring to Draco”.
So how were Sage’s parents to know? It was hidden from them by the state (through the school), then used against them by the state (through the court) when they did not use the pronouns they were not accustomed to using. The end result was a combination of the school and the courts separating a child from her parents.
In the aftermath of this ordeal, with support from Michele Blair (Sage’s adoptive mother and maternal grandmother), Virginia legislators have introduced Sage’s Law. This law compels schools to inform parents if their child identifies as a gender different from their biological sex.
The ending to Sage’s saga is telling. Sage no longer identifies as a boy. Her gender dysphoria is gone, and she’s back to being Sage again. She will always carry this trauma and the scars of her horrific experience made worse by ideologically invested state actors. Thankfully she has been reunited with her parents, who fought heroically to get their daughter back.
Hopefully, we can learn from Sage’s story. Our families are under attack. We must understand the consequences of bad state policies coming down through the Michigan Department of Education. We say “Education, Not Indoctrination” for a reason. The indoctrination taking place is aimed at wresting control of children away from parents towards the state. Yet, there is no evidence that children are in better care in the hands of the state. There are plenty of reasons to believe children are far worse off when in the care of the state. It is up to parents to protect their children. Get involved in their school in any way you can. We cannot cede parental rights and responsibilities to the schools or the government.
