Not the Michigan Republican Congressional Delegation, not President Trump, not the Republican National Convention, and certainly not a rogue Michigan Republican Executive Committee have the authority to select the leader of the Michigan Republican Party (MIGOP). The decision fully rests in the hands of precinct delegates. This is being made abundantly clear as the coup to take over the Michigan Republican Party continues.
This saga began on January 6, 2024, when less than half of the MIGOP Executive Committee members held a meeting that was not authorized by MIGOP Chair Kristina Karamo. At the meeting, 40 of the 107 executive committee members claimed to have voted Karamo out of her position. The majority of executive committee members did not attend the meeting because they saw it as illegitimate not being called by the chair. Chair Karamo had scheduled a meeting for January 13, 2024. At that meeting, the executive committee voted 59 to 1 to reaffirm Karamo as chair.
Since then, the coup has made national headlines and further divided the party. The leaders of the coup have undermined Kristina Karamo on social media, in podcasts, and main stream media. They call for unity on public platforms. Meanwhile, they are the ones causing strife within the party.
On January 19, 2024, a lawsuit was filed regarding the leadership of MIGOP. The judge ruled the courts should not get involved in intraparty disputes and rejected attorney Matt Deperno’s request to intervene in the Michigan Republican Party State Committee leadership debate. In an interesting twist, those working to remove Karamo as chair, hired the same law firm, Warner, Norcross and Judd, that was hired by three individuals in Ottawa County who sued the Ottawa County Republican Party over similar concerns. After newly elected patriot precinct delegates voted in an entirely new Ottawa County Executive Committee in a landslide, Ottawa County District 2 commissioner candidate Jordan Jortisma, and two others, sued the Ottawa County Republican Party effectively draining their bank account.
Since the coup began, the RNC led by Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel announced that the RNC recognizes Pete Hoekstra as Chair of MIGOP. In addition, President Trump endorsed Pete Hoekstra as the MIGOP chair. The Michigan Republican Congressional Delegation also acknowledged Pete Hoekstra as chair.
None of these entities actually have authority over the selection of the MIGOP chair. That authority rests with the elected precinct delegates of Michigan. Pete Hoekstra is from Allegan County Michigan. During their February 15, 2024, convention, precinct delegates in Allegan and several other counties passed resolutions reaffirming Karamo as chair and rebuking and admonishing Hoekstra.
WHEREAS Kristina Karamo was elected by Precinct Delegates representing all residents of Michigan by an impressive, uncontestable margin at State convention February 18, 2023, and
WHEREAS the outcome of the election proved that the Michigan Republican Party (MRP) is solidly in the hands of “We the People” and
WHEREAS Chairwoman Karamo was overwhelmingly reaffirmed by the MIGOP State Committee on Saturday, January 13, 2024, and
WHEREAS the Saturday, January 6th, 2024 was and is known to be an unlawful assembly of the MiGOP Committeemen
BE IT RESOLVED, we the Allegan County Republican Precinct Delegates and the patriots on the AGOP Executive Committee, REBUKE AND ADMONISH Peter Hoekstra (and his false MiGOP assembly), as a usurper, a traitor and enemy to We The Republican Delegates of Allegan County.
BE IT RESOLVED, we the Allegan County Republican Precinct Delegates and the patriots on the Executive Committee acknowledge and proclaim Kristina Karamo as the Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman. We support her 100% in her efforts to help Republicans win the upcoming local, state and federal elections. We DO NOT acknowledge any other rogue group of so-called Republicans having any authority in the MiGOP business. We urge our fellow patriotic Republicans throughout Michigan to unite and support Kristina Karamo as our Chairperson.
BE IT RESOLVED, we the Allegan County Republican Precinct Delegates and the patriots on the AGOP Executive Committee, DO NOT recognize the National Republican Committee as a whole body, or as individuals having any authority whatsoever in this matter.
AND NOW, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Allegan County Republican Precinct Delegates and the patriots on the Executive Committee condemn the recent actions of individual persons or groups, such as those within the Telegram channel MIGOP INFORMATION and any of its spin-off groups. We will not tolerate the sabotage of the Republican Party and the dilution of our delegate votes being erased by these individuals who falsely represent themselves, seek to sabotage Kristina Karamo, and by extension the success of the Michigan Republican Party.
Grassroots Republicans remember Matt Deperno challenging election integrity in 2020 and 2021, and know Trump brought prosperity to America. When they see both Deperno and Trump support Hoekstra, they do not bother to investigate further. Likewise, the Michigan Republican Congressional Delegation and Republican National Convention, which have recognized Hoekstra, are credible bodies with clout, but they do not have authority that extends to influencing the selection of the MIGOP chair. It is important to recognize the bylaws which establish authority, and remember blindly following credentialed experts is tempting, but all humans make mistakes.
Some news reports have indicated illegal activity and corruption may have taken place within prior Michigan Republican party leadership administrations. Karamo is being attacked because she has not given into corruption and has not been willing to do the bidding of the establishment. She has supporters all across the state that know the truth and are working to reestablish the long lost proper functions of the party’s structure. The establishment GOP still clings to their corrupted party model and that is why they continue their coup against the new Michigan GOP.
