Ottawa County Commissioner Lucy Ebel is the target of a recall. A clarity and factual hearing with the county elections committee is scheduled for tomorrow morning July 17, 2023, at 8:00 am. If the petition is accepted, a signature campaign will follow and then a special election after that if enough signatures are gathered.
Who is behind the Ebel recall campaign? According to public comment given during the July 11, 2023, Ottawa County Board of Commissioners meeting, the petitioner is Larry Jackson. Jackson has an interesting history as explained by the public comment included below.
“My comment is about the Lucy Ebel recall petition, and I support Mrs. Ebel.
The petitioner is Larry Jackson. He is funded by Act Blue, treasurer of the Ottawa County Democrats, and the failed democrat candidate for the 86th Michigan House seat. Without irony, he claims that he represents a coalition of voters from all political parties and that Ebel and Ottawa Impact are too extreme for Ottawa County.
Let's talk about who is too extreme. The democrat-friendly Holland Sentinel, wrote an article in 2022 titled, “Report reveals past arrests, lewd posts from 86th District candidate Larry Jackson.”
The following quotes are taken from the article:
“Jackson was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit in Virginia Beach in 2005, to which he pleaded guilty. He was also found guilty of public drunkenness in Hampton County, Virginia, that year.”
“In 2008, Jackson pleaded guilty to a DUI in Virginia Beach and was found guilty of disorderly conduct in Norfolk. He also had eight separate charges of driving with a suspended license over a six-year period while in Virginia.”
“In 2012, Jackson was charged with providing officers with a fraudulent ID. He pleaded guilty to one charge.”
“In addition to the past criminal charges, several social media posts from Jackson in 2012 and 2013 containing lewd content, anti-women and anti-Hispanic messaging have surfaced.”
So, who is too extreme? The proverbial idiom “The pot calling the kettle black” comes to mind.
Were this petition against a Democrat Hispanic woman, if they could define woman, the democrats would be screeching “racism” and “misogyny.” As Proposito Michigan observed:
"Commissioner Ebel is Ottawa County’s first duly elected Christian Conservative Latina. Her historic and well-earned victory in 2022 is met with disdain by the party of quotas and affirmative action hires."
I find it intriguing that Commissioner Zylstra proudly endorsed Jackson for state house, posed for picture with him at The Guardian Brewing Company with other Democrat activists including recall handler Oakland Joe, voted to appoint Jackson to County Officer’s Compensation Commission despite knowing then dismissing his criminal charges and demeaning media posts, and was an Ottawa Objects founding member with Sarah Leach. He may have the Sentinel on speed dial?
Ottawa Objects and the Sentinel have made no secret of their war against Ottawa Impact. This is an opportunity for him to demonstrate transparency.
Again, I fully support Commissioner Ebel and I foresee this petition justifiably backfiring.”
Lucy Ebel did not commit any crimes, and she did not act immorally. She is being targeted because the Left simply does not like the way she has voted and that cannot be tolerated. According to the petition, “On February 28, 2023, Commissioner Lucy Ebel voted for a motion to correct the previous board of commissioner’s December 13, 2022, resolution that appointed Adeline Hambley as Administrative Health Officer for Ottawa County. Commissioner Ebel voted for the motion after Ms. Hambley challenged in court the commissioner’s designation of her status as Interim Health Officer.”
Isn’t it interesting that the first ever Latina Ottawa County Commissioner is the target of recall?
