Ottawa County School districts are busy notifying parents that their children are about to be given the Youth Assessment Survey (YAS). Lakeshore Middle School Principal Amanda Sorrelle sent out the following email notifying parents.
“On October 10th, our eighth graders will be taking a survey that is given countywide to 8th, 10th, and 12th graders. The survey is anonymous and will be taken online during science class at Lakeshore. Students are asked questions regarding their health and risk behaviors in the following areas; unintentional injuries, violence and bullying, social media involvement and sexting, sadness and suicidal behavior, alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, dietary behavior and physical activity, overweight and weight perception, housing, stress, reproductive health, and risk and protective factors. If you wish to opt your student out of the survey, please sign the attached letter and have your student bring it to their science teacher. We would like as many students to take the survey as possible as it helps our school district and county determine the needs of our teens to coordinate education programming.”
Notice she used the phrase “reproductive health.” This is the new term the left is using to cover all Sex Education topics. Lisa Uganski from the Ottawa County Public Health Department used the same term during the April 27, 2023, Board of Commissioner meeting at least two times.
Changing language and redefining terms is done deliberately to depersonalize and mislead. Changing the term Sex Education into Reproductive Health is standard leftist language modification. While most people think of school sex education programs to include such topics as sexual biology and the risks of sexually-transmitted diseases, Reproductive Health gets expanded to include questions of an extremely personal nature with dubious value to sex education. Some questions from the survey:
During the past 30 days, how many times have you seen or accessed internet pornography?
During the past 3 months, with how many people did you have sexual intercourse?
Did you drink alcohol or use drugs before you had sexual intercourse the last time?
Per Amanda Sorrelle, questions like the above “helps our school district and county determine the needs of our teens to coordinate education programming”. Hmm, I guess I’d like to know exactly how before I have my child answer them.
Other terms that have been similarly redefined over the years include:
Teacher to Educator
Student to Learner
Mom to Birthing Person
Homeless to Unhoused
Don’t be fooled by woke terminology. When people question why some parents do not trust the Grand Haven Area Public School (GHAPS) district administrators, this is why. They simply cannot state the truth. Instead, they hide details they know some parents will not like, in order to indoctrinate their children behind their backs. There is no excuse for altering language. It is deceitful and it hides an agenda.
